From record player to CD – the latest hybrid DJ tools | posted 01.12.2003

Digital formats take over the DJ market

After a sneak preview in Japan (at the Techno festival "Wire") Technics now presents its CD Direct Drive Turntables in Europe for the very first time. Visually not dissimilar to a regular record player (to facilitate the switch for vinyl DJs) the SL-DZ1200 might lack a pick-up, but none of the regular DJ functions.

MP3 CDs, regular discs or SD cards – the hybrid will accept any format and, as expected from professional equipment, also offers beat matching, extra sample pads and cueing.

Visual pioneer

At the DJ Expo Pioneer recently unveiled its equally hybrid, pitchable DVJ-X1 DVD player (soon to be supplemented by a VJ effect mixer).
