Nation in flux
National identity, religion, history, social tension, violent conflict and political awareness – these are the issues explored in the works of the 23 artists shown at the Jewish Museum in New York. “Dateline Israel: New Photography and Video Art” focuses on art created in or about Israel after the year 2000, at a time when the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians erupted in a wave of violence in the second Intifada. As the works reflect the complex political realities in the country the exhibition offers many different perspectives on life in one of the most contested regions on earth. “Dateline Israel” will be on view through August 5, 2007. Photo by Pavel Wolberg (Israeli; b. 1966, Soviet Union, lives in Tel Aviv), Qalqilya (Outskirts), 2002. Digital chromogenic print.
