Crystal ball for tomorrow | posted 04.11.2004

Mind boggling games

A ball capable of reading your mind? Admittedly that sounds nutty, but wait till you’ve heard it all. Q20, an amazing gadget by Radica Games, plays a guessing game where you think of an item and answer the smart ball’s queries. After 20 questions Q20 will tell you what it “thinks” you thought of. If it’s wrong you win. Most of the times it isn’t. So how does it work? The software inside of Q20 is “self-learning” (think AI), which means that it is based on a neural network constantly extending itself. By asking seemingly unrelated questions it narrows down its choices to the most probable solution. Sounds incredible? Well, why don’t you try it yourself then?
